That’s exactly what I set out to achieve with this Calgary Downtown 3D print featuring the iconic Bow Tower and shimmering Bow River. Using STLFlix files and OpenStreetMap data as the foundation, I added my own artistic flair to make this piece truly shine—literally!
Breathing Life into a 3D Print
When I first came across these STLFlix files, I knew they had so much potential. The intricate details of Calgary’s downtown area are captured beautifully, but something was missing. That’s when the idea to use resin and mica powder came to mind! By adding these materials to the rivers, I was able to give the water a vibrant shimmer and depth that takes the print to a whole new level.
This print is one of 13 incredible tiles available from STLFlix, though not all tiles feature water. For those that do, the addition of resin really makes the geography pop. I’ve been experimenting with framing options as well, so stay tuned for updates on how these prints can be beautifully displayed in any space.

- Sourcing the Files: I found these amazing designs on STLFlix, which are based on accurate geographic data from OpenStreetMap.
- Printing the Tiles: After printing the selected tiles, I carefully prepared them for the finishing touches.
- Adding Resin & Mica Powder: This step was all about precision and creativity. The mica powder adds color, while the resin creates a glossy, water-like effect.
- Final Touches: I’m currently working on the perfect frame to complement the print, ensuring it’s ready for display.
